Diagram of approximate ages and stages of child development. Many periods of time overlap, and all periods are approximate. Newborn or neonate runs from nought to three months. Infancy from nought to eleven months. Toddlerhood from eleven months to three years. Childhood from two to thirteen years. Play age from one to seven years. Preschooler from three to six years, primary school from five to eleven years, then secondary school to eighteen years. Preteen from nine to twelve years. Preadolescence from nine to thirteen years, then adolescence to eighteen years, and adult after that.
