Umemejua ni njia mojawapo ya kutumia nishati ya jua; mbinu nyingine ni matumizi ya [[joto]] la Jua moja kwa moja, [[usanisinuru]] wa [[mimea]] na matumizi ya nguvu ya [[upepo]] ambayo ni pia [[umbo]] mbadala la nishati ya jua.

Umemejua huzalishwa kupitia [[seli za sola]] ''(solar cells)''. Seli hiziohizo kimsingi ni [[Tabaka|matabaka]] mawili ya [[silisi]] au [[nusukipitishi]] nyingine yaliyounganishwa ilhali tabaka la chini lina kiwango cha [[boroni]] inayosababisha kutokea kwa [[chaji chanya]] na sehemu ya chini imepata kiwango cha [[fosferi]] inayosababisha [[chaji hasi]]. Kila seli huwa na viungo vya umeme vinavyowezesha kupita kwa [[Mkondo wa umeme|mkondo]] unaofikia nguvu ya takriban [[nusu]] [[volti]].
 
Seli nyingi huunganishwa kufanya ''[[paneli ya sola]]''. Paneli za aina hizo zinaunganishwa mara nyingi kutosheleza mahitaji ya umeme ya [[Jengo|majengo]] madogo na makubwa, [[vijiji]] au hata [[miji]].
