Chakula kinahusiana na afya pia kuhusu uwingi au uhaba wake. Inaeleweka ya kwamba uhaba wa chakula yaani njaa kwa muda mrefu unadhoofisha mwili na afya. Lakini kinyume chake kuzidi kwa chakula kinaleta hatari pia. Katika maisha ya mjini na familia waliotoka katika umaskini kali hali ya [[kunona]] tangu utotoni imekuwa tatizo kubwa. Kunona kunafupisha maisha na kuandaa mwili kwa magonjwa mengi yasiyotokea kwa uzito wa wastani mwilini.

Vyakula vingi hutokana na mimea. Wanyama ambao hutumiwa kama chakula kwa binadamu huwa wanafugwa na kupewa vyakula vinavyotokana na mimea.
