The risk of vandalism when we have, say 240, location map templates? Essentially these type of templates perform a database function and are designed to reduce workload. There are suggestions of better ways to do things, including a separate data wiki, or an interwiki resource for templates like commons. These need commitment from the WMF to happen, so they are currently pipe-dreams. I am interested in (among other things) a simple to use Wiki in any language, and believe that templates are one way of doing this. They can also share effort across many languages.
