Educational and Environmental Odyssey: Sulemani Masoud Mohamed's Journey

Sulemani Masoud Mohamed was born on the island of Pemba, Zanzibar, in the year 1996. His early education took place at the Istiqama school, formerly known as Alhikma, under the guidance of Sheikh Nurdin Kishk. Transitioning to primary education, he attended Muungano Primary School in the Temeke area, which later split into three separate schools (Ndalala, Muungano, and Serengeti). Sulemani found himself at Serengeti School after the division.

In 2010, he successfully completed his primary education and enrolled at Miburani Secondary School. Excelling in his studies during Form Two, he gained the opportunity to pursue science subjects. Sulemani completed his Form Four education in 2014 and proceeded to St. Anthony's Secondary School, specializing in physics, chemistry, and biology until the year 2017.

In the pursuit of knowledge, Sulemani continued to St. Anthony's Secondary School for his Advance Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSEE) until 2017. During this time, he showcased a keen interest in science subjects, setting the stage for his academic endeavors. He joined Sokoine University of Agriculture at Morogoro Tanzania mainland class of 2017-2020,pursuing bachelor's of science in Aquaculture.

Venturing into the realm of higher education, Sulemani enrolled at the University of Dar es Salaam, Institute of Marine Science (IMS) Zanzibar, from 2022 to 2024. Here, he pursued a Master of Science in Marine Science, building on his earlier academic achievements.

Beyond the classroom, Sulemani's passion for marine science found expression in practical experiences. As a Field Assistant at the Institute of Marine Science (IMS) Zanzibar from July to August 2019, he contributed significantly to marine species identification and seagrass assessments, showcasing his commitment to environmental research.

His professional journey continued as a Field Research Assistant with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) from September 2020 to September 2022. Sulemani played a pivotal role in marine resource management, geospatial analysis, and conservation strategies. His involvement with the national shark project team underscored his expertise in data cleaning and marine species identification.

In 2020, Sulemani co-founded the ZAN Ocean and Agroforest Organization(ZOAFO), a youth-led initiative dedicated to marine and coastal conservation in Zanzibar. His leadership was evident in executing outreach programs, addressing plastic pollution, and designing ocean literacy programs for primary schools.

Sulemani's commitment to community education, capacity building, and environmental conservation is evident not only in his academic achievements but also in his hands-on experiences and initiatives.
