Mnamo tarehe 12 Januari 2012 alikamatwa kwa shtaka la wizi baada ya kushindwa kurejesha vitabu vitatu ambavyo alikuwa ameazima kutoka kwa taasisi ya kitaaluma ya ndani. Alishambuliwa na polisi akiwa kizuizini. [7] [8] Mashirika kadhaa yalitoa taarifa kujibu kukamatwa kwake. [9] Baadaye Kota alisema kwamba alikosea mahali pa vitabu hivyo na alijitolea mara kwa mara kuvibadilisha na kwamba ofa hiyo ilikuwa imewasilishwa kwa polisi waziwazi. [10]
