UKIMWI katika Karibi
Karibi ni eneo la pili baada ya Afrika Kusini kwa Sahara kuathirika zaidi ulimwenguni kwa viwango vya maambukizi ya Virusi vya UKIMWI. [1] Kulingana na takwimu ya 2009, karibu asilimia 1.0 ya watu wazima (watu 240,000) wanaishi na ugonjwa huo. [2] Sababu zinazoathiri janga hili ni pamoja na umasikini na unyanyapaa. Matukio ya VVU katika Karibi yalipungua kwa 49% kati ya 2001 na 2012.
Maelezo
haririIngawa asili halisi ya ugonjwa huu haijulikani, janga la VVU katika Karibi lilianza miaka ya 1970. Kesi ya kwanza ya UKIMWI iliyoripotiwa ilitokea Jamaika mnamo mwaka 1982, ikifuatiwa na visa nane kati ya wanaume mashoga huko Trinidad na Tobago. Katika siku za mwanzo za janga hilo, wanaume wengi waliathirika kuliko wanawake. [3]

Mwishowe, inabaki kuwa ngumu kutekeleza kikamilifu hatua za kupambana na VVU katika maeneo kadhaa, na utafiti wa kina unahitajika kuelewa jinsi hatua hizi zinavyofanya kazi kusaidia watu wenye VVU. [1]
