B. R. Ambedkar
Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (anajulikana pia kama Dk. Babasaheb Ambedkar; 14 Aprili 1891 - 6 Desemba 1956) alikuwa mwanafalsafa, mwanasheria, mwanauchumi, mwanasiasa na mrekebishaji wa kijamii wa India. Aliongoza harakati ya Dalit Buddhist na alifanya kampeni dhidi ya ubaguzi wa kijamii kwa wale wasiogusika (Dalits). Aliunga mkono pia haki za wanawake na kazi. Alikuwa Waziri wa kwanza wa Sheria wa India huru, mbuni wa Katiba ya India, na baba mwanzilishi wa Jamhuri ya India.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
Mnamo 1956, alianzisha ubadilishaji mkubwa wa Daliti, akaongokea Ubudha na wafuasi 600,000. Alifufua Ubudha nchini India. Ambedkar anachukuliwa kama bodhisattva, na Maitreya, kati ya Wabudhi wa Navayana.[7][8][9][10]
Mnamo 1990, Bharat Ratna, tuzo ya juu kabisa ya raia nchini India, alipewa Ambedkar baada ya kufa. Urithi wa Ambedkar unajumuisha ukumbusho na picha kadhaa katika tamaduni maarufu. Urithi wa Ambedkar kama mrekebishaji wa kijamii na kisiasa, ulikuwa na athari kubwa kwa Uhindi ya kisasa.[11][12]
Ambedkar alipigwa kura ya kuwa "Mhindi Mkubwa zaidi" (The greatest Indian) mnamo 2012 na kura iliyoandaliwa na Historia TV18 na CNN IBN.[13]
Ambedkar Jayanti (siku ya kuzaliwa ya Ambedkar) ni sikukuu ya kila mwaka inayoadhimishwa mnamo Aprili 14, ambayo huadhimishwa sio tu nchini India bali ulimwenguni kote. Ambedkar Jayanti anaadhimishwa kama likizo rasmi ya umma kote India.[14][15][16] Umoja wa Mataifa uliadhimisha Ambedkar Jayanti mnamo 2016, 2017 na 2018.[17][18][19]
