sw-wikipedia? hariri

Hi Rich, I see that you imported hundreds of English language templates into sw-wikipedia. I am sure that you did this with a good intention! Did you discuss this with any of the admins (not that I am aware of). What is your idea in flooding the Swahili wikipedia with material in a foreign language? Kindly comment! sw:user:kipala

(moved back from en:)
Ok I see we pay a price for sins of the past. We have a lot of articles which were created by newcomers thru translation. Quite a number were just dump of english entries into the google machine. Being newscomers they did not understand the idea of templates - thus we got this long list of requested templates which is caused by all those probably inadvertently imported english templates. I am not a friend of getting more English language content but my friend Muddy likes it - yeah maybe its better to have the English template than just the red line. OK, thanks - we see to it! Kigezo:Infobox Settlement hariri

Rich, kindly have a look why this template works nicely with Nairobi but is a mess with Nouadhibou. Kipala (majadiliano) 05:45, 28 Septemba 2011 (UTC)Reply

We need Kigezo:Location map Mauritania - I'll fetch the next batch. Rich Farmbrough
I do not think we need that. We are too small to work with different city templates for each country. Does not look sustainable to me. One working template for settlements of any kind is enough. Please do not go to importing blindly anything that has been dumped into any of our entries. Lets have some reasoning about what we need. Kipala (majadiliano) 15:05, 28 Septemba 2011 (UTC)Reply
I am all for reasoning. What is your concern here? The risk of vandalism when we have, say 240, location map templates? Essentially these type of templates perform a database function and are designed to reduce workload. There are suggestions of better ways to do things, including a separate data wiki, or an interwiki resource for templates like commons. These need commitment from the WMF to happen, so they are currently pipe-dreams. I am interested in (among other things) a simple to use Wiki in any language, and believe that templates are one way of doing this. They can also share effort across many languages. This approach is used on the Nepali Wikipedia, for example. Rich Farmbrough
I am all for reducing workload. How does this happen with 240 location templates instead of one? As far as I see it 240 location templates have to be translated 240x, have to be remembered they they exist (otherwise you get some places with template a, others with template b or c) and have to be maintained. We do not see the long term capacity for this. What is wrong with one location teplate for a small wiki like this? Kipala (majadiliano) 05:37, 29 Septemba 2011 (UTC)Reply
The way location maps work , for example, is relatively language independent. They are called from {{Infobox settlement}} - this is not like {{Infobox Indian jurisdiction}} which is a replacement for {{Infobox settlement}} just for India, which I also oppose, even on en:. They are more part of {{Infobox settlement}} which become more useful as time goes by. We currently have only the two we need so far, and they are un-likely to change. We will only bring more over as we need them, partly because that's easier and partly because I hope that there will be a better system in a year or two.
Rich Farmbrough
Rich, sorry I didi not get all your points. Let me ask once more. A) What is the problem with just one location template? B) How do you conclude "we need this or that template" ? Kipala (majadiliano) 21:17, 3 Oktoba 2011 (UTC)Reply
A) The location templates are invisible magic - they tell {{Infobox settlement}} the name of the map to use, and where the corners are so that the "pin" can be put in the right place. Obviously you cannot use the map of Kenya for Mauritania.
B) Templates that are being used and don't exist (on sw:) are listed at Maalum:Wanted templates.

TZ's political stubs hariri

Hi there. The mbegu that you've created - it's awesome! However, there is a tiny problem with majimbo's area. For instance, in each and every article you've added a bracket "Arusha" while most of them are not from Arusha. Let's talk about jimbo la Ubungo, Ubungo is located in Dar es Salaam and not Arusha! Furthermore: there is no need to mention the region - just write only the constituency only and it would be better. You have a big job review what you've created. I think you can use an AWB for that! Word up!!!!--MwanaharakatiLonga 11:16, 12 Novemba 2011 (UTC) Reply

Oookayyy, you did an outstanding job, buddy! It's totally awesome! Keep it up!!! And remember, do not hesitate to ask me anything, pal - be more than willing to help you out! Cheers!!!!--MwanaharakatiLonga 07:01, 13 Novemba 2011 (UTC)Reply

What we have is some basic data. We could create stubs of the from this, but I will need help translating the first one of each type. BY the way I created the English page for Vincent Kigosi. Rich Farmbrough , 10:28, 14 Januari 2013 (UTC).Reply
Name the line please! I will have it translated!--MwanaharakatiLonga 16:52, 14 Januari 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hoola! I've just tried to make things clear, but I'm not quite sure if this is what you needed! Please check it out and let me know... PS: Some words you've just wrote them in Swahili so I did not get the general idea what was about! Please try to elaborate in English - I might have an answer for that! MediaWiki:Common.css's case hariri

Hi. I have the seen the difference between the English Wikipedia's template and the Swahili one. What do you think has to be done in order to resolve the problem? It looks pretty weird! Please help this!--MwanaharakatiLonga 07:16, 4 Februari 2013 (UTC) Reply

The hlist class needs to be added. But hlist is also used by the navbox class and the infobox class. So simplest is to copy the entire thing. This may bring other benefits. I see you have made a css sheet for yourself, which is a good idea. Rich Farmbrough , 09:10, 5 Februari 2013 (UTC).Reply
  Imefanyika. Did you find any difference? Cause I didn't!--MwanaharakatiLonga 11:45, 5 Februari 2013 (UTC)Reply

Stub on Botswana hariri

Hi. I think you did an outstanding job! But what about "InterWiki Link"? Traced most of the articles are not connected to the English Wikipedia. Please check it again!--MwanaharakatiLonga 17:15, 11 Februari 2013 (UTC) Reply

yes, I still have to add these links. :) Rich Farmbrough , 21:50, 11 Februari 2013 (UTC).Reply

Kigezo:Start date and age hariri

Salaam, Richie! I need your help on above mentioned kigezo. It behaves different when you take a look here. If you see, it says: "2007; iliyopita 6 miaka" instead of "2007; miaka 6 iliyopita". The second one is the right one. Pity I don't know how to solve the mystry. I hope you can have the situation cleared out sometime soon. I've just viewd the kigezo's history and find that you were the one who imported it from the English Wikipedia. So you might have some ideas on how to make it work properly in Swahili term. That's it. Best,--MwanaharakatiLonga 06:38, 28 Juni 2013 (UTC) Reply

Imefanyika. One change in the obvious place, and one in Kigezo:Plural. I hope that it always right that the number follows the noun? Also I have juma for "week" not wiki which is curious. Rich Farmbrough , 00:08, 30 Juni 2013 (UTC).Reply
Ah I see juma and wiki are the same. Rich Farmbrough , 00:18, 30 Juni 2013 (UTC).Reply
Thanks.. Yep, Wiki na Juma are the same. But use "wiki" - we don't have to complicate things in any way. Thanks again!--MwanaharakatiLonga 12:47, 8 Julai 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dodoma hariri

Dear Rich Hi!

Just wanted to inform you that at "Dodoma", the picture (Picha:Dodoma Cathedral.JPG|left|thumb|250px|Kanisa Kuu la Anglikana, Dodoma Mjini) you've inserted, does not appear. FYI, I would have done it myself, however, I'm not very keen with the photo downloading procedure, so, I don't want to mess-up things.

Furthermore, does anybody of you (in the Kiswahili wiki) intend to write (in the English wiki) something about "Kimamba"?

With kindest regards --Aristo Class (majadiliano) 09:37, 26 Julai 2015 (UTC) (from the el.wiki)Reply

The new file is visible on Dodoma (mji). As for Kimamba do you mean Kimamba A or Kimamba B? Rich Farmbrough , 01:23, 29 Julai 2015 (UTC).Reply

I think that it must be Kimamba A. With kindest regards. --Aristo Class (majadiliano) 19:30, 5 Agosti 2015 (UTC)Reply

  Imefanyika.

Infobox settlement hariri

Hi Rich, in the past you have edited the kigezo:infobox settlement. I try to put infos in but it only shows very limited items. For example i try to add post_code = but it just does not show. Can you help? Kipala (majadiliano) 19:36, 27 Oktoba 2015 (UTC)Reply

I changed the template to make it easier to use. Do we have an article on Post code - and what is the preferred kiswahili expression?
Rich Farmbrough , 20:19, 27 Oktoba 2015 (UTC).Reply
Msimbo wa posta is there - so just something like msimbo_posta =. Would be great, Cheers Kipala (majadiliano) 22:11, 27 Oktoba 2015 (UTC)Reply
Now supports
msimbo posta =
msimbo_posta =
postal_code =
post_code =

Flagicons on swwiki hariri

Hi Rich, in past years you did a number of flag templates for swwiki. I have added a few for the world cup. Now I do not find the settings. The Icons show an English country name that is linked to the swwiki article. Like template ENG|England shows Flag plus "England" and the link leads to Uingereza. Any way to show the Swahili names? Kipala (majadiliano) 11:04, 12 Julai 2018 (UTC)Reply
