Panteno (kwa Kigiriki: Πάνταινος; alifariki 200 hivi[1]) alikuwa mmoja wa wanateolojia wa kwanza katika historia ya Kanisa, mwenye hekima kubwa na ari ya kitume [2].

Tangu kale anaheshimiwa na Waorthodoksi wa Mashariki na Wakatoliki kama mtakatifu.

Sikukuu yake huadhimishwa nao tarehe 22 Juni na 7 Julai[3][4].

Mzaliwa wa kisiwa cha Sisilia (Italia) Panteno alikuwa mwanafalsafa mwenye kufundisha mjini Aleksandria.[5] Baada ya kuongokea Ukristo, alijitahidi kulinganisha imani yake mpya na falsafa ya Ugiriki wa Kale.[6][7] Hata hivyo hakuna maandishi yake yoyote yaliyobaki hadi leo.[8]

Aliongoza Chuo cha Kikristo cha Aleksandria (Misri) kuanzia mwaka 180 hivi. Ndicho chuo cha kwanza cha katekesi, nacho kiliathiri sana teolojia ya baadaye, hasa juu ya Biblia, Utatu, Kristo. Kilipoanzishwa kusudi lake lilikuwa kuwaelimisha Wapagani waliotafuta habari za imani mpya ya Kikristo kabla ya ubatizo. Chuo cha Aleksandria kikaendelea haraka kuwa kitovu cha elimu ya Kikristo na majadiliano kati ya imani ya Kikristo na falsafa ya Kigiriki iliyostawi sana Aleksandria, mji mkuu wa Misri wakati huo.

Kadiri ya Jeromu chuo cha Aleksandria ilianzishwa na Mwinjili Marko. Baadaye anatajwa Athenagora wa Athene (176), lakini kwa hakika zaidi Panteno, aliyeacha uongozi kwa mwanafunzi wake bora, Klementi wa Aleksandria mwaka 190.[9] Huyo alifuatwa na Origene akiwa na umri wa miaka 18 tu, na wataalamu wengine wanaoheshimiwa kama watakatifu katika Kanisa la Kiorthodoksi na Kanisa Katoliki kama Gregori Mtendamiujiza, Heraklas, Dionisi wa Aleksandria na Didimo Kipofu.

Eusebi wa Kaisarea anasimulia kuwa Panteno, kutokana na upendo wake kwa Neno la Mungu, alikwenda kama mmisionari[10] kuinjilisha watu wa mashariki hadi India.[11][12][13][14][15][16].

Hatimaye alirudi Aleksandria, alipofariki dunia kwa amani wakati wa kaisari Caracalla[17].
